The "In the Blink of an Eye -- Think Before You Drive" campaign is designed to increase safe driving, reduce the number of accidents, and create community awareness. By specifically targeting seat belt safety, car seat safety, driver fatigue, road rage, driving distractions, split second decisions, and impaired driving, we will positively impact our community. Jacobs High School will offer a seminar to educate parents on methods to teach their children safe driving. Additionally, Jacobs will offer a refresher course on Illinois Driving Laws with a special segment for senior citizens. Our Project will target:
1. Seat Belt Use- We will work to increase the percentage of people wearing seat belts.
2. Driver Fatigue- Drivers will be educated on the dangers of driving while under extreme fatigue.
3. Road Rage- The team will educate drivers about the influences of our emotions over our driving ability so to prevent road rage.
4. Split-Second Decisions- The team will teach others how to eliminate any driving distractions, and overall decrease the number of distractions while driving.
5. Driving Distraction- The team will teach others how to eliminate any driving distractions, and overall decrease the number of distractions while driving.
6. Impaired Driving- By exposing students to the dangers of driving impaired and the hard truths about alcohol and drug-related crashes. We will challenge students to drive responsible by encouraging them to consider themselves and other on the road.
7. Car Seat Safety- In order to keep children safe, we will educate parents on how to install car seats correctly.
8. Bicycle Safety- The team will work with younger students on bicycle safety and the rules of the road.
9. Train Safety- Not only will the team educate children on train safety and the dangers on the tracks but also teens, adults, and seniors.
10. Organ Donation- We want to present organ donation as a vital issue. Since drivers must re-register, our team finds it critical to educate and encourage the community to consider organ donation.
Our School will not only cover as many driving components as possible but also connect on a personal level with all participants.
